“Slavery and War in the Atlantic World: The Case of Confederate Georgia”
Dr. David Gleason
David T. Gleeson is Professor of American History and Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Northumbria University in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK. A native of Ireland, Gleason spent eighteen years studying and teaching in the United States, with a notable stint on the faculty of the College of Charleston’s history department. Gleason also contributes to the Program in the Carolina Lowcountry and Atlantic World as former Director and current affiliate faculty member. Gleason’s most recent book The Green and the Gray: The Irish and the Confederate States of America was published in 2013. He is also the editor of a collection of essays for the University of South Carolina Press entitled The Civil War as Global Conflict: Transnational Meanings of the American Civil War published in 2014.
